It's not suitable for even small office use. If you can get one cheap with the printer cable, it is OK as a home printer. The toner cartridge was only used in the 1100 and 2x00 series, making them more expensive than popular cartridges. If the copier is installed and the printer has less than 10 MB memory, pushing the "copy" button causes it to scan - pause - scan - pause, and eventually it prints.ħ.

One can buy service manuals for these printers from Tradebit for a modest price and if you intend on tackling a repair they're absolutely mandatory. If buying the HP 1100, ask to see a good copy of the test sheet which will give you the number of sheets of paper that have been through the printer and will tip you off to any repetitive defects. It took me about an hour and a half to change the fuser and no special tools are needed. As it happened my low page count printer came with a bad fuser assembly, which costs $59 from the manufacture r and $7 on ebay.

The HP 1100 is a good solid monochrome Volkswagen Beetle of a laser printer that occupies a small footprint on the desk and can be had for a rather modest price. Also, do a print page number check when you buy a printer because several sellers will tell you that there are less han 5,000 pages printed,but in reality, there are over 171,000 pages printed. Overall, this is a nice printer that will do a great job for less than $100. 17,000 pages of print is approximately 8-9 years of usage for an average print year (1,500 - 2,000 pages per individual) which is already a long time. Be careful when the printer is advertised with low pages printed or 17,000 pages with low monthly cycle.

I have purchased each of my printers on Ebay with less than 3,000 pages printed (anything more you are risking the chance that the most important part, th e fuser, has already been overworked and will need replacing - good luck if you can find one plus the $100 cost for a printer technician to install it for you). My employer has approximately 20 of these units around the office and after 10-12 years, they are still working. I currently own 4 printers at home (2 are being used in separate rooms and 2 are kept as spares in case of repairs). You might get an occassional multi feed of sheets because of the printers configuration but I think that this is due to high humidity levels at various times that makes the pages stick together. Printing quality is good with a fresh toner cartridge kept in a dry location. This printer is always dependable and reliable. This is a good printer for home or a small business that does not require lots of space.
